My name is Kirk. That means that since I have been old enough to introduce myself to people I have received a lot of "Oh, like the Captain!"s in my life. This has developed a certain bond between William Shatner and me.
While I was a little too young to be on the original Star Trek gravy train, I have always had an interest in my name sake. Now for the first time in my life there is a new Kirk on the scene. JJ Abram's Star Trek stars the young and dashing (and relatively unknown) Chris Pine. Will he be the new image that people conjure up when I introduce myself over the din of the Polka band?
I'm not quite sure how I should feel about this. My only idea is to look to the original Kirk for emotional guidance.
To tell you the truth that wasn't much help. That might have been a video of a pile of Gnochi reacting to the trailer for all the facial movement Shatner displays. But his new book sounds awesome! Maybe I'll stay home and read that instead of complicating my name with a whole new Kirk.
