Happy Birthday To Me

Yeah right, how old are you? Like 26? 27?

I’m a good deal older than you are.

I just turned 28.

Oh. That is pretty old.

Sob.

Happy Birthday to Me by Cracker

It's catchy, the lyrics mean almost nothing (although I have always really liked when he says "Sometimes I wish i were Catholic. I don't know why.") and no one else seems to like it very much. But I've listened it to every year since it was released except two cold and lonely birthdays in Siberia.

Happy Birthday to Me by The Vandals

Same song title, way more F words. If you have a hard time understanding  the satanic sounding voice  in the break down, he is saying "Spank me, Spank me, Spank me." Tell me that dog is not adoreable.

Things I like to do on my birthday:

Eat something I really like (this year Pearl's Oyster Bar - Lobster Roll)

Have Someone Make a Big Deal Out of Me (this year Bobby Tisdale blew a fireball for me at Invite Them Up)

Make Out With a Beuatiful Girl (this year... sob)

The Voices In My Head

In this modern age of increasingly invasive technology I find myself smothered by the onslaught of new communicative advancements like the relentless embrace of an insecure lover. I don’t need every aspect of my life digitized and made accessible to my top 8, the "network" and advertising focus groups. I don’t need to be accessible 24 hours a minute.

  But fear not, this is no self-righteous rant about the necessity of resisting the future’s iron like grip at the other end of the tug of war of change. No, this article is to extol one of those rare new features of our modern age that seems to fit my life like an appropriately sized condom...

Who the &^%$ are you talking to?

I recently was approached on the street by a person I had not seen in some time. Their open line was "Is that Kirk? It is! It is Kirk!"

It was odd that they didn't ask me but reassuring that some how my identity was confirmed. It was like they googled me with God.

A new phrase for the people.

Tonight as I was having a conversation about moving to LA, some one asked me if Ihad any connections out there.

This is a rough question. It is hard to answer it and not sounde like a total douche. But I think i employerd me sense of cleverness very well tonight when i answered:

"I have one-bar connections out there."

There it is. One Bar Connection. A way to describe a connection that kind of is there but will probably drop your call if relied on. G and share it with the American Lexicon and then we can foot note this in The American Slang Dictionary.

The Daily Pic part 2

A little more on The Daily Pic .

I have set it up so it really will be daily from now till the end of July at least. Hopefully I will be able to do this forever.

All pictures were taken with my camera phone (an LG VX9800).

Thanks to Mr. James Felder for providing the picture for the new banner. As a reward I am going to put a permanent link up to his photo site. I did the little TDK smudge in the window though.

Oh say what is Mormon

I haven't really written anything about my thoughts on Mormonism on this blog. Anyone who knows me knows that it has been a fairly ominous topic in my life. I always felt that my silly little blog wasn't really the place to air my spiritual laundry. I still think that.

I recently came across a website/podcast called Mormon Stories that I found very intriguing. The basic idea of the web site is that the host, John Dehlin, interviews what are referred to in Mormon culture as "Alternative Voices". Instead of arguing points for and against the religion, he simply lets them tell their story. The stories run the gambit on topics from Masonry to Polygamy to blacks in the priesthood.

Recently John posted a podcast in which he told his own personal story and philosophy on Mormonism. I haven't ever heard anything quite like it.

I know that some of you have your own problems and concerns with Mormonism. I would STRONGLY suggest listening to this podcast. And even if you are just interested in Mormonism or are a practicing Mormon who wants to learn about how others think, you should still check it out.

The podcast is in three parts (each an hour). The first is John's story growing up mormon. The second is his journey out of and back into the church, and the third is a summation of his current feelings about the church.

I know 3 hours is a lot to listen to, but it is worth it. If you only listen to one segment however, make sure it is the third one.
