When I was young I really liked rap music. But not gangster rap, and not indie rap. I liked DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince. I liked Another Bad Creation, Vanilla Ice and Criss Cross. In short, I liked the best music ever.
And I liked Mc Skat Kat.
Skat Kat was the animated cat from Paula Abdul's video "Opposite Attract" who later went on to do his own album, thus proving that there were animated musical numbers long before The Gorillaz.
I won't go on and on about the guy, but needless to say, he was very important to me.
Here is Skat Kat doing his signature solo hit, The Skat Kat Strut:
My name is Kirk. That means that since I have been old enough to introduce myself to people I have received a lot of "Oh, like the Captain!"s in my life. This has developed a certain bond between William Shatner and me.
While I was a little too young to be on the original Star Trek gravy train, I have always had an interest in my name sake. Now for the first time in my life there is a new Kirk on the scene. JJ Abram's Star Trek stars the young and dashing (and relatively unknown) Chris Pine. Will he be the new image that people conjure up when I introduce myself over the din of the Polka band?
I'm not quite sure how I should feel about this. My only idea is to look to the original Kirk for emotional guidance.
To tell you the truth that wasn't much help. That might have been a video of a pile of Gnochi reacting to the trailer for all the facial movement Shatner displays. But his new book sounds awesome! Maybe I'll stay home and read that instead of complicating my name with a whole new Kirk.
Hi everyone. Do you like the stirrings of life in the daily kirk all of a sudden? Ypu that's right! For the 15th time, we are coming out of retirement.
Kind of.
Many of you know I run a website called filmcatcher.com which is a lovely little film site that no one can quite figure out what it does. We have settled on an idea to focus primarily on the blogging aspect of the site so in the future plan to see a lot of cross posting on this blog and vis versa.
My question to you guys is this: Will anyone miss the rest of the web site? I mean we are going to pretty much stop doing the video interviews (although there will be other video content coming soon), but is anyone going to be angry we take down all the other stuff? My guess is no but I thought I'd float it out there.
So check out the site and tell me if you like anything about it or if you think we ought to basically start from scratch.
